Chlamydia Postal Testing Kit.
Rates of Chlamydia
detected in the under 25yr olds continues to rise across the whole of the
UK.
Dumfries & Galloway is amongst top
performers for Chlamydia screening in Scotland. The past few years
has witnessed a dramatic rise in screening of men for Chlamydia.
The Department of Family Planning & Sexual Health can now supply Postal Testing Kits for Chlamydia WITHIN DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY. This is the fastest growing sexually transmitted infection, particularly in the under 25 age group. Dumfries & Galloway has the second highest rates in Scotland for Men & Women under 25 years of age. Chlamydia may not have any symptoms but once detected is quite easy to treat.
The postal kits give people the option to be tested without attending a clinic or their Doctors, which can be difficult for many reasons in a rural area like Dumfries & Galloway. There are instructions with the kit and people are asked to provide a contact phone number so their results can be relayed to them. The kits fit into a standard post box and go straight to labs.
The postage and the kit are free.
The Dept will contact you by your chosen method of contact in 7-10 days to inform you if the results are negative or positive. Anybody or any organisation, WITHIN DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY, who would be interested in obtaining a supply of these kits please contact Adele Hannah 01387 244436 or email adele.hannah@nhs.net.
REMEMBER: your partner has to be treated as well.
It is advisable to be screened for Chlamydia every time you change your sexual partner and have sex without a condom.
