C-Card
What is the ‘C’ card?
The ‘c’ card allows young people aged 14-19 to collect free
condoms from any place in Dumfries & Galloway displaying the C4U logo.
Who will the information I provide be passed on to?
The information you
will be asked will allow you to receive a service tailored to your needs
and help us improve the service provided. All information given will be
confidential and will not be passed on to e.g. Parents, carvers, school,
or Doctor. However, if there are any causes for concern you will always
be asked before any information is shared.
What if I lose my card.
You will have to go back to the place you registered
to obtain a new card. The ‘C’ Card is small , just like a
credit card so is easy to store in a wallet of a purse.
What if I want condoms but haven’t got my
card?
Normally you only
be able to get a supply of condoms if you have your card. However, if
it is an emergency you will be given 1 condom. It makes more sense to
carry your card with you.
I am not in a sexual relationship at the moment but would like to join
scheme?
This is not a problem and it shows that you are thinking about
your sexual health and want to be prepared when the time comes you are
ready for a sexual relationship.
I don’t like using condoms?
There are a variety of different condoms
available in the scheme so just ask your advisor.
Girls are seen as ‘slags’ for carrying
condoms?
A sexual relationship involves 2 people and both have to be responsible
when it comes to safer sex. A girl carrying condoms shows that she is
sensible and being responsible for her own sexual health.
It is embarrassing discussing using condoms?
Using condoms within a sexual relationship should be a normal part of
discussing your relationship
It is better to use 2 or 3 condoms at once to be really safe?
No you only need to use 1 condom at a time but remember to use a new condom
every time. Dispose of condom by carefully removing, tie it up, wrap
in tissue and place in bin - DO NOT FLUSH DOWN THE TOILET.
I have only had sex once, surely i do not have
to tested for sti’s?
Every time you have sex without a condom with a new partner you are putting
yourself at risk of catching an infection.
Surely if my girlfriend is on the pill we will
be safe.
The Pill prevents
unplanned preganancy but offers no protection against STI’s. The
Double Dutch method (Another form of contraception
and use a condom) is best to help prevent unwanted pregnancy and STI’s.
