The C-Card
The ‘C’ Card is available to all young people aged 14-19 years old across Dumfries & Galloway. The service provides advice and support from trained people who will offer a a non judgemental and confidential service on sexual health issues. The people you see will not be embarrassed and neither should you be. They will put you at ease as sex is a normal natural part of our lives.
WHAT DOES A 'C' CARD INVOLVE?
There are outlets across Dumfries and Galloway where you can go to register for a ‘c’ Card. At registration you will be asked for your name and address, gender, age and postcode. These details will be kept confidential and will not be passed to your parents or your Doctor. Even if you know the person you are seeing they will not be able to pass on any details about you. Registration will include a Sexual health chat including:
- Confidentiality
- Age of partner
- Alcohol and drug issues
- Double Dutch method (using another form of contraception and condoms)
- Emergency contraception
- Sign posting to other services if relevant
- How to say no
- Be shown how to use a condom properly and correctly
- What to do if a condom bursts.
- Where to get free condoms
- Free testing for STI’s
You will be asked to sign an agreement as this indicates that you are
being responsible and respective of an important part of your health.
You can use your ‘c’ card across the region whenever you see
the C4U logo and are entitled to use your card for a year. At the end
of the year you will have to re-register. You will be given 6-12 condoms
at each visit.
REMEMBER condoms are not only about preventing unwanted pregnancy they
are about safer sex and help to prevent against STI’s which are
highly prevalent among young people today.
HEALTHY SEX = ESSENTIAL CONDOM USE
OR
CONDOM USE = HEALTHY SEX = HEALTHY
WELL BEING.
However, if you are believed to be misusing or selling condoms you will no longer be able to use the service. Condom use is essential to a positive sexual health ehich is an important aspect of your total well being.
WHERE TO GET A ‘C’ CARD
It is straight forward and easy to obtain a ‘C’ Card and you don’t have to be sexually active to sign up for C4U scheme. You may be thinking of becoming sexually active and want to make sure you are protected from sexually transmitted infections. This is being responsible for your sexual health.
WHERE TO GET FREE CONDOMS?
Once you have registered for your ‘c’ card
you can use it to collect free condoms from any place displaying c4u logo.
You hand over your card and your ID number on the back of the card will
be recorded for stastical purposes. You do not even have to speak but
remember this a service for young people provided by people who have an
understanding of youth issues.
